    Not sure what I’m doing wrong, I expect it’s something really simple, but I’m a designer not a coder so please forgive my stupidity.

    As far as I can see, you’ve included jQuery after the SmartMenus plugin in the source and it should be linked before it (or any other jQuery plugin).

    I.e. in the head section of your page you have the following:

    Just change it like this and it should work:
